What is glass fiber mesh?
It is a net made from glass fiber threads. You put it inside the plaster. Good mesh has a coating that protects it from cement.
Why does plaster crack?
A block wall and a concrete beam do not move in the same way when they heat up or dry. So cracks often start at the line where the wall meets the beam or column.
The mesh holds the plaster together across this line. This helps stop those cracks.
Where to use it
- Joints between walls and beams or columns
- Around doors and windows
- Over pipes and wires cut into walls
- Wall corners
- Outside plaster
How to fix glass fiber mesh
- Put on the first coat of plaster.
- Press the mesh into the wet plaster. Let it cover both sides of the joint.
- Where two pieces meet, overlap them.
- Put on the second coat so the mesh is fully covered.
Using AAC blocks? Mesh is very useful where AAC walls meet the concrete frame.
